The workshop for “Building Capacities in Technological Entrepreneurships in Higher Educational and Research Institutions” held in Lagos has reiterated the need for entrepreneurally focused technological education, an unremitting theme here at Timbuktu Chronicles.
Senator Lawan G. Guba stated "...that technology is a critical factor in facilitating the development of a nation this is evident and incontrovertible. He added that questions have continued to be raised, given our experiences in Africa, on how relevant and appropriate the technology being adopted is, within the prevailing state of African economies..." referring to a report associated with 'Millennium Development Goals (MDGs)' Professor Folarin Osotimehim stated that"...given the challenges of globalisation, what Africa needs now, more than ever before was to mobilise and harness the technical expertise of its people to facilitate its own development, as no foreigner can develop the continent than the African...one of the major recommendations of the study undertaken at the global level is that higher educational institutions need to reshape and focus on technological entrepreneurship..."given a global economy that rewards technology expertise, higher educational institutions are more important than before and they can contribute to development in several ways."..."They can undertake entrepreneurial activities that aim to improve regional or natural economic and social performance. They can conduct industrial Research and Development, create spin-off firms, participate in capital formation projects such as technology parks and business incubators, introduce entrepreneurial training and internships into their curricula, and encourage students to research from the university to firms...",ThisDay Online.
